Starting my Modelling Journey

Starting my Modelling Journey

I 've been modelling the rolling stock of the WAGR since about 1980 and the number of models will vary.  This is my first time putting my work online. I'll be posting updates as I go. First all models are made by hand and by me. Products used mostly are PVC plastic as this is excellent and comes in a large variety of sizes and thickness. Up until now there are components which are cast in White Metal such as Bogies and some brake and axle box pieces. We as a group use KayDee couplers and axle and wheel sets made in New Zealand. There is also a small selection of brass strip and rodding.

Some of my models have been converted into urethane kits for members modelling needs. This requires a different type of modelling but the end results are excellent. All models are scale correct to 1/64 and run on standard HO track which represents 3ft 6in in S scale.

My builds and Projects.

Some of my models may not be finished but I will get back to them in time. I am thinking about breaking my models into sections ie Type and as I model both WAGR and MRWA also their own sections. The WAGR took over MRWA in 1964 and some of their rolling stock came into the WAGR.

I have now added 4 new sections to the blog called Other Models 1-4. in these sections I have added other model makers models that I have made.

I have now uploaded a photo of my Layout called Bencubbin in 1962 which was on display at the Perth 2018 Model Railway exhibition at the show grounds If you wish to see more just say so. The layout is controlled by DCC but with a bit of effort can be switched over for DC control. I spent my first 20 years in this country town before being called for military service

This is a photo from the Koorda end of the layout and looking up the main line with the station on the right hand edge of the layout opposite the blue wagons. The town of Bencubbin is on the left at the blue screen and was never modelled. The main line passes through Bencubbin on its way to Mukinbudin. Originally the line continued on to meet the eastern goldfield line at Bullfinch. It was a light loading line and never saw locomotives like the S and V classes and became mainly used by the X class. I do remember an L class steam locomotive in my younger days.

Modelling changes.
With the possibility of an HO scale locomotive coming in the future, I have added another page for my HO scale models and kits. Please refer to section Other Models 6. This doesn't mean I have given away my S scale modelling. It just adds to the enjoyment of modelling.
